Ashley Turton, a lobbyist for Progress Energy, and wife of White House Deputy Director of Legislative Affairs Dan Turton, was found dead in a burning car in a garage behind her Capitol Hill home this morning.
According to the Washington Post, “a preliminary investigation indicated that the car crashed into the garage of a home in the 800 block of A Street SE.” Neighbors also told numerous media outlets that they believed the fire that proved fatal for Turton began around 5:00am, with fire officials arriving just 2 minutes after 911 was finally dialed.
Turton was 37-years-old and a mother of three. She worked with Progress Energy for a little over 3 years and they released a statement about her death immediately. The tragedy occurred just hours after Progress Energy announced a $26 billion dollar merger with Duke Energy.
